The idea of the project is to bring Armenian sound and video
art to non professional public creating a new alternative
space for contemporary local art. The goal of the project is
to shorten the existing distance between artist and
audience.
The project is taking place in the
„Cheers!” Club in downtown Yerevan. It presents a
happening which consists in presenting 4 selected videos and
a performance by Tsomak – a young Armenian artist with
whom we actively collaborate on that show.
Tsomak
interacts with the vision adding especially composed music
and improvising alife with the sound. The sound intervention
offers a new approach to the vieo works providing them with
a different meaning nuance.
The title „Stereo-Motion” is inspired by
the process of puting together images and rhythm in a life
happening. „Stereo” refers to music but also to the
„doubleness” of the vision and sound mixture.
„Motion” concerns the dynamics of the vision itself and
the rhythm added.
The video selection consists of 4 videos by young Armenian
artists which are related to each other in their use of
vision, rhythm and aesthetics.
- Sona Abgaryan’s „Untitled”
(6.05 min, 2004) presents a simple movement of the
artist’s body without any sound. In that piece Tsomak’s
intervention gives the motion a meaning of
dance.
- Tsomak’s video „Bolt” (1.54 min, 2005)
presents a lyric impression simply zooming the constructive
elements of a bridge. In this case she interacts with her
own work adding sound rhythm which strenghtens the sense of
dynamic.
- Tigran Hachatryan’s „Untitled” (11.51 min,
2002) presents an intimate part of a human body within a
black frame and accompanied by a fast sound rhythm which
sugests some sexual associations. Tsomak reflects on this
message adding human noises.
- David Karayan video is called „Madeness paid for
speech capabillity” uses direct ideological slogans and
pop-aesthetics images. This work has its own outstanding
soundtrack and Tsomak interaction is very delicate.
The order in which the videos follow is defined according
to their internal dynamics so that they create an increasing
rhythm.
Postproduction: The happening is
going to be copied on CD and presented on the „Last
Týme Art” artists’ workshop in Sofia (July, 2006)
as well as on the Real Presence VIII in Belgrade (August,
2006).
